Hindu scriptures: Vedas, Upanishads. These Veda texts are the source of inspiration, and the basis for the philosophy and Hindu spiritual practice. These timeless truths were revealed to anonymous sages. The basic philosophy, based on the Vedas, is called "Vedanta;" meaning, the culmination of the Vedas. There are several Vedas. The last part of each Veda contains an "Upanishad," and is the philosophical portion. Therefore, the Vedanta contains the Upanishads upon which the philosophy of Hinduism is based. However, and this is the confusing part, there is no agreement on a single philosophy; rather, there are different schools of thought.
